Thank you for the group recommendation. We were fortunate enough to have participated in the curriculum development at our church in Leawood, and look forward to contributing at our new church in Cheyenne. We have some very talented teachers here too. Dallas Willard spoke at our church in Leawood a couple of times. One of my goals is to attend the Renovare' Spiritual Formation Institute in 2013.

Thanks for the welcome, James. I haven't been to any Renovare' conferences. I was introduced to Richard Foster and Dallas Willard through the spiritual formation curriculum at Christ Community Church in Leawood, KS, where we attended prior to moving to Cheyenne. I look forward to engaging here.

We were not at Tulsa this year. It's been quite a few years since we've been there! I miss it and told my wife I would have loved to been able to arrange the time off work to have gone. I wanted to see what new books I could buy for my library! I love Jim McGuiggan's books and own several of them. I miss seeing Marvin Phillips and all the other great gospel preacher's like the late G.P.Holt and Albert Hill, who I went with to Antigua years ago to help the church there. I even made wooden pews for the services and lead singing. I still remember his simple but powerful way of presenting the Gospel to the Antiguan's! Lord willing, I will be at Tulsa next year! I hope you will be too! I can't wait to meet you and talk to you about Christ and His mission for us!

Your suggestions are exactly what I've been doing! I had a coworker stop me tonight and tell me his mother has cancer! I asked him what her name was and started writing it down on my clipboard I carry to collect data at work. The look on his face said it all! He was surprised my my genuine concern for his mother and him. He hesitated for a split second and said,"Thank you! that would be so nice." I explained to him that I have a prayer list that I am constantly adding too and I would be praying for him too and he said thank you. As we parted I just prayed to God, thanking Him for sending me to this hurting individual and let me continue to find ways to serve him and share my story about why I care for others, what Christ has done for me and  to me!

I look at my job at Toyota as my "mission field"  and you have reaffirmed this by how close your suggestions mirror what I am already doing!  God Bless you!

Hi James! How can I join your Missional Outreach when I live in Illinois and you all are in Texas? Is the idea to start up new outreaches somehow? I am very interested in your ideas on this subject and any suggestions. I want to get my wife,my three daughters with their husbands as well as myself more involved in reaching out to the community and sharing Christ with them while serving them! Thank you so much! You have been a real shot in the arm for me personally!

James, right now I'm talking on an individual level. I have several team members at work who I share the story of Jesus with and what He has done and offers us all. I start every work day by praying to God thanking Him for his love, grace and forgiveness. I then dedicate everything I do each night to God and do everything in the name of Jesus Christ. It has helped me stay focused all night on what I am doing, why, and for whom I'm doing it! It helps me control my thoughts, language and actions. I find myself going out of my way to serve, remembering that my Master was the greatest servant of all! I had a young woman shout out to me,"hey Mr.Smiley! Why are you always smiling and so happy"? It gave me a great opportunity to tell her about Jesus Christ and the "good news" gospel! It felt so great to share Jesus with her! After I left her to go on about my job, I immediately prayed to God, thanking Him for answering my prayer to use me in His service! I know He lead me to this young woman! She told me she had been praying a lot lately and felt like she was sent over to my department to meet me! She had been having a lot of trouble at home with family members and is truly searching. I am talking to so many people now who all tell me basically the same thing, they believe in God but do not go to church. I want to study further with them and share God's plan of salvation to them.

James, thanks for the guidance and for this interesting digital gathering place you've helped create.  In order to be a good husband to my wife, a former criminal prosecutor in NYC, I should ask if you have a privacy policy.  While I have nothing to hide here, I would like to know in advance if search engines will be flagging my activity here.  I have stayed off of Facebook up until now, even with its ministry and relational opportunities, because of my wife's work on identity theft cases.  Thanks in advance, Tim

Thats a good question James. I am sponsored by an established church, Remmel Church, as their urban minister. I was mentored and trained by Dr. Anthony Wood from River City Ministry in North Little Rock to carry this work forward. It was handed to me with 5 people meeting in an apartment for Sunday services. Remmel has about 12 volunteers that have created an outreach ministry that has significantly helped the church plant to get up on its feet. Now that has turned into "The Crossroads Church" since it is in the Crossroads Housing Projects. The goal is to carry this church plant forward and allow God to raise up ministry leaders from the neighborhoods God has sent us to. The end result is not to "do church" for them forever. I'm trying to work myself out of the picture through deep discipleship and leadership development. A lot easier said than done. When they step up in leadership it will free me up to go start this again nearby and still remain close to this congregation. I am seeking any Bible studies or leadership development material that will engage "below the surface." I am interested in learning more about "the story of redemtion" that you use. Can you tell me more about what it covers and how it works?

Thanks for helping get the word out about the MM Podcast. We just recorded "Episode 11" tonight, and I'm editing right now. I'll get you something soon. For now, the best iTunes link would be: http://bit.ly/hgzxOs. Otherwise, www.sermon.net/missionalmonks is good, too.

James,

Thanks for letting people know about the free Mission-Minded Child/Family offer. So far, I've had about 20 people from MON respond. The packets are all packed and ready to go. I'm excited to propose this idea for mentoring families for missions, and just wanted to express my gratitude!

Ok James. I just wrote a blog post to answer your question, and added a portion of a recent interview that applies to the topic. It's entitled "Inspire Your Kids (& Kid's Church) for Missions"
