What a great post! Thanks...we are studying how God prepares the soil in a stranger's heart to hear the words that He has impressed upon the sower's heart. God prepared Peter by letting down the sheet of unclean animals and God prepared the heart of Cornilius. God prepared and opened the heart of Lydia. God is working in the world today in ways we cannot imagine to prepare those whom we need to open our eyes to-- a field white for harvest.

The Holy Spirit works on the hearts of people who are seekers and He works in the hearts of those who are doing the seeding. Our calling is to sow the seed, shine the Light, become salt for those who crave answers and seek God. If we are walking according to the Vision of God as His "called out", then Yes, we will have these experiences.

This summer in Russia, I was divered unexpectedly to the "daucha" (garden home) of a mother of a very dear friend of mine. The mother was never open to the true Gospel as she was Russian Orthodox. Upon my visit the strangest thing occured. She told me that she was very unhappy because she was not growing spiritually and had asked her priest about it. He told her "don't worry about it". But she began reading the Bible on her own. As I arrived at her house, she was reading Acts 8 and wanted to discuss her convertion and baptism. My friend was astonished that her mother after 10 years had at once become so open to hear the Gospel and to realize she needed to follow the Bible instead of her priest.

No one could have set up that encounter sooooo sweetly except The Lord.. Whether or not we are trusting Him to prepare soil, He is and we just need to "show up" and "step up" for the harvest.

Thanks, Joy! Lydia is a great example. The text says that "God opened Lydia's heart" to Paul's preaching. Cornelius, whom you mention, Lydia, the Philippian Jailor, the Ethiopian Eunch--all of these examples in Acts are of the Spirit going forth, and the church trying to catch up!

The sending of the Spirit out ahead of us is a real key of missional theology. I love your story of the mother of one of your friends in Russia. Wow! That must have been amazing to be a part of that conversation. I was certainly amazed at my text conversation that I was having, even as I was having it.

Thank you for sharing, Joy!
