Why the Dallas Cowboys & Churches Run By "Jerry Jones" Will Not Win/Grow

In case you are not a Dallas Cowboys fan or you were living in a cage the last 48 hours or so, Jerry Jones once again showed why his team will never win another championship. Jones is a great owner--but a terrible GM and coach. He constantly undermines his coaches, overrules them, tells them what other coaches to hire all the way down to the conditioning coach.

This past…

4 Steps To Transform A Church

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein

"Change is a challenge. Many want change until it is required of them!" - Me

Jesus' greatest challenge was the religious status quo of his day. His inaugural message declared the Kingdom and addressed…

The Challenges Facing the Republican Party:

10 Things that the US Church Can Learn From This

Though I place no faith in politics to change the world, I do follow politics closely. And as an observer of culture, it is clear that many of the challenges that the Republican party faces are also…

Why are Young Christians Leaving the Church? - Part 1: Overprotective and Afraid of culture and Creativity)

Why are Young Christians Leaving the Church? - Part 1: Overprotective and Afraid of culture and Creativity)

Recently, I was asked by someone why I thought that we were losing the "postmodern generation"--why younger Christians are leaving our fellowship. It is a good question, and a question that other…

How far are people willing to drive to "go to church"?

In his new book, The Nuts and Bolts of Church Planting, Aubrey Malphurs summarizes research by Win Arn on average drive times of those "going to church" (attending a worship service). The average drive times are:

- Less than 5 minutes - 20%

- 5 to 15 minutes -…

Breaking the 200--I mean 150--barrier in churches

There are whole books and seminars given on how to break the "200 barrier" in church attendance. I'm not necessarily impressed with making attendance the goal. I would prefer for churches to look at missional markers such as the number of people baptized, the number of people served in the community (whether people fed and clothed or people helped in marriage, etc.), or the…

Why is "church" not working for most people?

Weekly church attendance in the US is 17.5% and dropping. Why is this? Why is it that "church" just is not working for the majority of people?

One of the new members on the Missional Outreach Network told me that she found this site through reading Mike Slaughter's book, Change the World: Recovering the Message and Mission of Jesus. Naturally, I checked the…

No one cares about your church

I was asking a young woman in Starbucks the other day where she went to church. Her name is Katie.

Katie said that she had started going to a church. She had only been only been going one time, but she liked how the minister was interactive and applied to lesson to real life.

Her co-worker asked her, you don't know which church it was or it's…

A Vision for a New Church

I am ordained in the Association of Vineyard Churches and I am exploring beginning a new house church in Louisburg, KS.

First, let me share the problem in Louisburg and the Miami County area. Right now there are Baptist churches, a Lutheran church, Methodist churches, Assembly of God churches, Catholic and Presbyterian churches, a Cowboy Church and some non-denominational churches. Each serves the community in it's own way and does a good job of doing what it does.

Online Giving

After about 4 months of research and submitting paperwork and even being investigated by the financial entities involved, Genesis Alliance has online giving available. I am very impressed by the amount of detail and security involved in having this opportunity made available on our website. We long to see our friends help us evangelize the Latino communities across this great land. 45 million Latinos live in the United States and are among the most receptive cultures to the gospel in the world.… Continue

Changing the Scorecard of the Church

I just finished reading Missional Renaissance by Reggie McNeal. I took Reggie for a D.Min. class at Fuller, and Becki and I heard him speak at a minister spouse retreat. He is very in tune with both the religious and the non-religious world, and I give him credit for inspiring me in a lot… Continue

Book on House Churches

This is a book on house churches that was recommended to me by Alan Hirsch. I have it on order, and I am looking forward to reading it.

One thing to note about house churches in the NT. The household was not a single nuclear family, as it is in suburbia today. Households were complex networks of… Continue
