ONE BODY

TEXT EPH 4:1 – 6

INTRODUCTION: In 1984, my name Eric Asante Obeng was change into one body by some friends in the Islamic monotheim that believe the lord in Tamale. The same something happened in Southern Africa Bible College, when I was called “Baptised”.

A. Called out – primarily and by consequence called together.

Should Christians observe Ramadan (a Muslim Fast)?

Author Brian McLaren has joined with some of his Christian friends in observing Ramadan. McLaren says:

"Ramadan is the Muslim holy month of fasting for spiritual renewal and purification. It commemorates the month during which Muslims believe Mohammed received the Quran through divine revelation, and it calls Muslims to self-control, sacrificial generosity and solidarity with the poor,… Continue

The Future of Social Media

In a post today, Wes Woodell, on his blog West Coast Witness, asked the question(s) "Is Social Media Just a Fad? Will Facebook Fade Like Vanilla Ice?" Included in that post was a YouTube video from Socialnomics (Watch Below). Both reaffirm the reality that social media has parked its massive rear… Continue

Week Four: Inside Out

Neighbors and hospitality were the topic of conversation this week...we discussed three categories of people where graciousness, kindness, and hospitality are required. Here's what we left with:

Strange: Find a neighbor and spend 10 good minutes getting to know them. Use the formula we talked about last week. Ask about family, work, and recreation. You might even (gasp) invite them to dinner.

Stranger: Do a little investigation into the challenges of… Continue

Inspiring Story & Baptism from Closet Closet Ministry!

Many months ago a woman named Rhonda came in to our clothes closet who was desperate, fleeing a very bad situation. She needed professional clothes for interviews, and was able to get them through our clothes closet ministry. We helped her in some small ways as well at other times.

Rhonda had told me about a very kind older man named Pete deLackner who had helped her. She had talked with him about being baptized. And yesterday, she called me to tell me that he was ready to do this.… Continue

Week Three: Inside Out

Highland Oaks friends, here's your mission for the week:

Identify someone in your workplace that you don't often associate with. Your reasons for not talking much with them may be good (you don't see them much) or not so good (you just plain don't like them). Reason doesn't matter; your job is to spend 5 good minutes with them.

In case you're looking for a way to start that conversation, here's a couple of ideas:

1) Look for something in common--anything--to… Continue

Why Your Church Must Be On Twitter

It's been surprising to me to see how few churches are on twitter. In my opinion," if a church is NOT on twitter, they should have their heads examined". If churches (yes, there are exceptions) are on twitter, they are typically doing it wrong. What do I mean? Some churches and pastors believe that Twitter is a broadcast medium or a bullhorn. It's called "Social Media" not "ME, ME, ME media". When a church or pastor is on Twitter,… Continue

Inside Out: Week Two

Here goes, Highland Oaks friends...

In Bible class today, I described two activities you could choose from this week to step outside of our "sheltered" Christian lifestyle and invite others to come with us.

1) Find a friend who doesn't know Jesus. Ask him/her how you could pray for them. Pray on the spot. Then, with their permission, take it to the prayer team at Highland Oaks and ask them to add this request to the prayer list. You can reach either Donna King or Diane… Continue

Jesus, the Center of Our Faith

Tomorrow I'm speaking on Jesus, the Center of Our Faith. It may seem strange to say that Christ is the center of Christianity. But this needs to be said, for far too often Christ has been forgotten in Christianity.

There can be no doubt that Jesus was at the center of the early Christian movement. Nothing else could generated the fiery zeal, compassion, love, and martyrdom of the first followers of Jesus. Nothing else could have caused a movement to begin with. Passion for… Continue

Names of Jesus

Jesus has many names. Here are a few of them listed below.

God - Jesus is the almighty God who became human for us (John 20:28). Immanuel - Immanuel means "God with us." In Jesus, God came to be with us as he became human, and he is still with us today (Mt. 1:23; 28:20)

Lord/Master - Jesus is Lord, master, the one to whom we owe our obedience--not Caesar or any other earthly power (John 1:1, 14). Messiah/Christ - Messiah means anointed one. In biblical times, prophets,…

Inside Out: Taking the Church Outside the Walls

Welcome Highland Oaks friends,

Here is where you can come to discuss our class for the next eight weeks. I'll have a new blog post up each week with a question, and jump in to the conversation. Week One:

Is it our job to call people into Christian community?
