Generation X and Transformers

OK, made you look. :)

Seriously, I'm running a series on my blog this week about the ways in which Gen X has been entrusted with gifts and experiences that can resurrect and transform various parts of our broken world.

Today, I posted about how the faith of Gen X is desperately needed in churches to bring back faithful questioning of God and a departure from forms of faith that prop up… Continue

When Easter is more Easter Bunny than Easter Sunday

It is the holiest week in the Christian calendar, the culmination of 40 days of liturgical practice, spiritual discipline, soul searching, and story-telling. Today is Palm Sunday, followed by Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and finally, next Sunday, Easter. Jesus is risen.

The promise of resurrection makes Easter Sunday the holiest day of the holiest week. It is cause for celebration, and it echoes the unseen unceasing celebration around the Throne. As a Jesus…

Forget the Image Others Placed on You

Loser! Untalented! Dumb! Hot Head! Fearful.

These are words that describe some of the images people place on others. I believe each of those have been placed on me at some point in my life and the sad thing is I believed the people who placed them on me. I wore those images for most of my life and every now and then one of them pokes its ugly head out and tries to attach itself to me again.

Some of you see one of those images each time you look in the mirror or in given… Continue

Watch Your Heart

Posted at REAL Men RoCK http://realmenrock.blogspot.com

In my earlier writings I wrote about my mom leaving when I was about 3 years old, I wrote about the negative impact two teachers had on me and I wrote about being molested by a homosexual. Those were real events that left negative scars on my life. But I do not have to allow them to control my life and make me who I am.

With this post I want to begin to share the men and… Continue

It's About Time!

I can hear it already,

"It's about time? yeah it is...You haven't written a blog for three weeks and this is all you've got! I'm sorry but that's just weak"!

WOW! Give me a chance! Would it kill ya to have a little faith or to be a little more patient? Maybe YOU should do like…

Our Strengths are Made in God's Image

I'm going to make an attempt in the next few blog posts, an attempt at verbalizing a "theology of strength." Like all good theology, I'm going to start with theology proper--the investigation of God, Who He is, Who He was, and Who He will be. Woven throughout the conversation today will be an anthropology--an understanding of who we are made to be.

I Am Who I Am. I Will Be Who I Will Be.

A theology of strengths begins with a recognition that God reveals himself, even if that… Continue

Your Hearts Desires!

Psalm 37:4 (King James Version)

4Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Twenty eight months ago I wrote a blog on Yahoo 360 entitled,

"When I live my dream"

It was about what I wanted to do with my life, here's a small sample from it,

"So dream a little dream with me, I'm sort of going out on a limb here I know but like they say "if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up…

Stitchs In Time

Hello! My name is Jeff Brown and I'm with the Vineyard Ministry fellowship and Outreach Center in Doniphan,Mo. We've rented the old Ben Franklin building on Washington St. and we're in the process of

establishing an ongoing ministry there centered around supporting people

with drug and alcohol addictions in their efforts to find deliverance

by establishing a relationship with Jesus Christ. As God allows we'd

also like to expand into other areas including couples…

THis is a great concept. It is gratifying that the good Lord is using you brother Sam and sister nancy. Keep it up.

Just to mention that my book, The Blooming Rose, the biography of my late wife, is now available from on line book stores worldwide. One just has to google my name and you look for the nearest or your preferred supplier. I will be most grateful if friends could buy the book and encourage their own friends. It is a good book. many who have read it would testify to that as…

Why I Hate Sales

I posted on my other blog last month about my strong feelings towards sales in general. I've had to change my perspective on sales as I started a business, and I understand an approach to sales that isn't about "making the sale" as much as it is "giving value to others." Sales as I've seen it is often self-serving, self-centered, and self-aggrandizing. Hearing a theme there?…

What is Strengths-Based Coaching?

My wife Marla and I love American Idol. We didn't start watching until season five, but now we can't imagine missing a show. It's something of a date night for us. And since we both have some musical training, we consider ourselves to be highly informed critics. :)

Whether you're a fan of American Idol or not, there is an interesting dynamic that takes place in the phase of the show where they whittle down the Top 24 to the Top 12. Many of the contestants find this to be a very… Continue

Moses is a Model for American Leaders

Or so says Bruce Feiler in a recent Time article ("How Moses Shaped America," October 12, 2009 edition). Apparently there's more to Moses than Charlton Heston or The Prince of Egypt.

Feiler has done his homework. He points to the number of Moses references in the eulogies of George Washington. Of course, the anti-slavery movement in the 1800s used Moses imagery to issue their

own call of "let my people go." And here's one I never would have put…

Monday on MON is coming! (March 22 or March 29)

Monday on MON is coming soon! Several of the Misisonal Outreach Network (MON) community members have suggested a scheduled time on Mondays to login and blog, comment, video chat, reflect, encourage, etc. We are lining up a group of writers and participants who will make this weekly commitment to contribute content and participate with one another. I will feature the page, blog, or website on the front page of this site of those that make this…

Is Texting Detrimental to Relationships?

Do you text? Do you tweet? Are you on Facebook or MySpace? Social networking has hit the floor running over the past few years. I have to admit, I, myself, have been sucked in to the social networking world. I have a Facebook account; I can be followed on …

If we are not discipling others, we fail to grow

T oday I had another Bible study with--I'll call him Paul Smith. Paul was baptized into Christ 4-5 months ago. Paul had been angry with God for years because he and his wife had suffered two miscarriages and had not been able to have children. Paul came to us because he and his wife at the time were headed towards divorce. This divorce is now finalized, despite his…
