OK...I thought The Shack was SO awesome! I just finished it yesterday! Then I spent the rest of my Christmas money to go out and buy TWO copies, bc I want to recommend it to so many friends, and I knew 1 copy wouldn't be enough to loan out for the next 3 weeks.

I would like to talk to someone else who has already read it. Before I read it, about 3-4 different friends told me they liked it, but it was "kinda wierd" (in their words).
I personally didn't find anything wierd about. I LOVED it. I thought it was just a beautiful description of our God and how He loves us.
There are TWO items from the book I'm still pondering, though....so I need to talk to someone who's already read it to see what you thought of those two items.
If you'd like to call me, please do... 903-253-3805.
Or if you'd rather discuss it here, that's great, too.
I'll be putting "spoiler alert !!!" at the top of EVERY message where we discuss anything important from the book...so please do the same, if you reveal much in your discussion.
I can't wait to hear from you!
Tara

OK - This is NOT a spoiler....
it's just something I think you might want to know before reading it, and I don't think it could possibly spoil anything for you:

I had one friend say "I liked it...but it's supposed to be a true story...and there are a few things I'm just not sure about being true..." I didn't think it was a true story, but this was before I read it, so I wasn't sure what to say to her...

Then, a few days later, after I had read it, another friend, who I asked if she had heard of it, said, "Yeah...isn't it supposed to be based on a true story of a guy who...." I stopped her right there.

It is NOT a "true story," in the sense that it is recounting events that happened to an actual individual by the name of Mack. No.
But it IS a TRUE, TRUE....true-er than most, story. It is SO true. But, no...the events did not actually happen to a guy named Mack. But it's still SO true.

It is written by a ficitious character named Willie, about his fictitious friend, Mack Phillips.
The REAL (currently alive, flesh and blood) author is a man named William Paul Young. And boy, is he ever a good author. With some serious insights about the true nature of God, and how God loves us. I'm quite sure I will be reading any book he ever writes after this one.

Please see my other post if you have already read it, and would like to start the discussion before Feb. 19.

Tonight was a night of great discussion and interesting thoughts. It is good that THE SHACK was such an encouragement to so many. Tara, I missed you. Your comments are always thoughtful and full of enthusiasm. Becki, you are a good facilitator in that you keep the discussion on topic while allowing flexibility.

There is a time to just listen and I'm glad I chose to do that during this gathering.
