Argentina #5
Monday was filled with so many emotions. Rebecca and I were excited to get back to our readers. We read with 12 people last week logging in about 27 hours of reading and discussion time. We were ready to go this week, especially after having such a great time of fellowship with Jacquie this past weekend. However, Monday was kind of a somber day. We woke to the coldest day so far in Argentina. This is following the hottest day we had on Friday. It was gray and cold and both of us only had a total of 7 readers. It was as if the devil were trying to discourage us. Then last night, as I said on my post on FB, Nune’s brother in law, suffering from dementia, went missing from a local nursing home in the dark, cold night. But, light always overcomes darkness, and a new day began today! We started the day in a warming sunshine with news of Nune’s brother in law being found! We have 10 readers scheduled today and are continually amazed at the stories that come forth from the readers! One reader that I (Debra) have is Christian. Christian is an extremely intelligent, humble, courageous and seeking man. I say this because in the last couple of years his family has gone from being rich to poor to now back to upper middle class. After searching the Bible, he and his wife decided to withdraw their children from Catholic education, which has left his children open to ridicule from their friends and caused the children themselves to question their parents. Christian has a desire to seek the truth like I’ve never seen in anyone before. He and his wife seem to truly want to do the right thing regardless if it’s the popular or usual thing. They are constantly asking themselves what they need to do to be “good people.” They battle with feeling as if they are “doing” enough or are being “good” enough for God. Christian and I have had so many deep conversations from the first session. I look forward to talking to him everyday and constantly ask God to give me the words he needs to hear. He’s told me things like, “It’s easier to walk the same way than change directions”. He told me a saying that is sometime said here, “No te metas” which means “don’t get involved” when we talked about the good Samaritan. On a funny note though, he was joking around with me yesterday saying he was having trouble speaking English since it was Monday. Later, when we were talking about asking God to help us when we make big decisions, I challenged him if he had done that when almost moving his family out of the country. He smiled and said, “No, I’m afraid I didn’t or maybe God was speaking to me in English and it was a Monday so I didn’t understand Him!” We both laughed, but he realized that even though he diligently seeks to do what’s right, he must never forget to include God in his decision making. I ask that you pray for Christian and his family. I can see this man and his family being able to do great things in God’s name, but as I said before, they battle with self-doubt and have yet to truly make that commitment to being a part of God’s family. Christian, as Mariano, brought Rebecca and me a Coke Zero one night and brought us an assortment of pastries last night. I’ve included that picture. Pray that Christian continues to seek God and that He submits himself and his family to God’s will for his life!

Debra, it sounds like Christian is on quite a journey. Isn't it amazing how God puts people like him in our path? Clearly God has been working on his life well before we decided to go to Argentina. He has been preparing Christian for your arrival. Isn't this an amazing thought?!!

We will pray for Christian, that he will continue to seek God, and that you and Rebecca will plant God's seed in his heart. It is great to hear from you and how God is at work!
